Getting the influenza vaccine later is better than not getting it at all

It’s always best to get your flu shot early in the season, but making it one of your new year resolutions still pays off. It’s still flu season well into spring.

Two of the groups at highest risk of serious complications due to influenza are children under the age of five and seniors. As of Nov. 2022, these two groups were well below the target flu shot rate of 80%.

According to Dr. Cora Constantinescu, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Alberta Children’s Hospital, children of all ages, many of whom previously healthy, were ending up seriously ill and needing ICU stays and hospitalization.
