The Leduc Beaumont Devon Primary Care Network (LBDPCN) is celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2026.
Established in March 2006 with three staff members, two programs, and a small office space, the LBDPCN was tasked to support primary care providers and improve access to coordinated primary health care services across our geographic catchment area. The organization’s initial programs focused on mental health and geriatrics, reflecting priorities identified by local member physicians.
The inaugural Board of Directors shared a vision of “Integrated and comprehensive primary health care for a healthier Leduc County and its communities.” Early efforts focused on building sustainable programs, building a talented team of trusted healthcare professionals, and strengthening collaboration across primary care. Despite limited resources, staff wore multiple hats and approached their work with commitment, integrity, and dedication to the communities they serve.
Over the past two decades, that foundation has supported steady growth. Programs expanded in response to community need, partnerships strengthened, leadership evolved, and the Patient’s Medical Home model was implemented. Through it all, the organization has remained guided by its core values of integrity, accountability, quality, and respect, and focused on meaningful outcomes for patients.
Today, LBDPCN stands as a multi-service organization delivering coordinated, patient-centred care through a full complement of programs and services, including:
Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Practical Nurses, a Registered Dietitian and Exercise Specialists, a Social Worker, a Mental Health Therapists, and Behavioural Health Consultants. Program growth has been guided by community need, physician leadership, and alignment with provincial primary care priorities. The organization continues to focus on improving access, strengthening team-based care, and supporting complex and unattached patients across the region.
Physician Board President Dr. Rebecca Saunders reflected on the milestone:
“Marking 20 years of service is a testament to the dedication of every staff member, board member, and community partner who has contributed to this journey. I am proud of our PCN membership and team, and the high-quality care they provide in patients’ medical homes. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to our mission and look forward to continuing to strengthen primary care and improve health outcomes in our communities.”
Executive Director Jason Sheehy, who joined the organization four years ago, emphasized both continuity and evolution:
“When I joined this incredible team, I was struck by the passion and commitment to our patients, physicians and communities. As we celebrate 20 years, we honour our history while continuing to innovate, strengthen programs, and respond to the changing needs of primary care in our communities.” Sheehy added, “As the organization evolves into the next phase of primary care, we look forward to continuing to serve our community by strengthening collaboration, supporting team-based care, improving access to services, and meeting the health needs of the people we serve.”
A 20th anniversary is more than a celebration of longevity, it is a celebration of people. The LBDPCN recognizes the contributions of past and present staff, board members, member physicians and nurse practitioners, and community partners who have supported the organization’s growth and development over the past two decades.
As the primary care landscape continues to evolve, the LBDPCN remains committed to strong partnerships, sustainable service delivery, and improving health outcomes for the communities it serves.
