Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP)

Enable learning, foster reflection, empower change.

The Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP) fosters a culture of continuous learning, reflection, and meaningful change in clinical practice. It empowers physicians to take control of their practice, turning everyday challenges into opportunities for improvement.

Key benefits include:

  • Improved Patient Experience: Enhancing care interactions and outcomes.
  • Proactive, Patient-Centered Care: Anticipating and addressing patient needs.
  • Better Team Communication and Workflow: Streamlining collaboration and efficiency.
  • Enhanced Care Quality and Value: Increasing efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Access to Coaching, Tools, and Data: Supporting informed decisions and practice growth.
  • Physician Well-Being and Growth: Promoting personal and professional development.
  • Measurable, Aligned Results: Driving change that aligns with clinic values and goals.

What is PPIP?

The Physician Practice Improvement (PPIP) was launched in January 2021 to fulfill CPSA’s legislated mandate. The CPSA-recognized initiative is designed to promote a culture of self-reflection, professional growth, and accountability among physicians. It encourages clinicians to critically assess their current practice, identify specific areas for improvement, and implement targeted, measurable changes that enhance patient care. By aligning with principles of continuous quality improvement, PPIP not only fosters better clinical outcomes but also fulfills the requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), supporting physicians in maintaining high standards of care throughout their careers.

What are the 3 requirements?

To meet the CPSA’s Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP) requirements, physicians must complete one personal development activity and two quality improvement (QI) activities at least once within a five-year cycle. These activities are designed to encourage reflection, promote continuous professional growth, and improve patient care outcomes.

  1. A Practice-Driven Quality Improvement (QI) Activity – An improvement project based on self-identified needs or practice data to enhance patient care. Learn more here.
  2. A CPSA Standards of Practice QI Activity – An activity that addresses a CPSA Standard of Practice, promoting alignment with regulatory expectations. Learn more here.
  3. A Personal Development Activity – A learning activity focused on enhancing professional skills, such as communication, leadership, or patient relations. Learn more here.
